About Us
The story
Project Andante is a place for musicians to grow and give back to their communities.
​
From the very beginning, we wanted to create a safe space for students to have fun making music that everyone could enjoy. We wanted to expand from the traditional idea of a recital and provide a joyful, risk-free environment where everyone – both the performers and the audience – can enjoy the beauty of music.

Our talented performers are given a unique opportunity to showcase their musical and leadership skills in a positive, encouraging environment. Their music is exactly what we need to foster a beautiful community full of vibrant tunes.

And who are better listeners than our elders, who have been by our sides for every moment of our lives? Their companionship has always brought every one of us a sense of security and strength throughout our journey. Their encouragements have always been the push of motivation to pull us out of a musical rut.

For many of our performers today, countless people have always been supporting them. Project Andante is our way of returning the favor.
Half Note performers
These are performers who have appeared in our concerts ten or more times!
Christina is a Junior at Lakeside School in Seattle, WA. She plays four instruments: the cello, piano, guitar, and … THE KAZOO. She’s been in various musical activities since she was 4 years old. Outside of music, she enjoys winning in contest math, any kind of board sport (snowboarding, skateboarding, wakeboarding, surfing, probably fireboarding if it existed), and annihilating people at volleyball.

Nick is a Junior at Newport High School in Bellevue, WA. He started playing violin in 6th grade and viola since 9th grade. Outside of Project Andante, he actively participates in Boy Scouts, plays violin in BYSO, plays viola in Newport’s Chamber Orchestra, does swimming and XC, enjoys volleyball, is somewhat competent at skiing, and does random musical gigs that his friends dragged him into.

Jeffrey is a 11th grade student at Interlake High School in Bellevue, WA. He started playing the piano when he was 4 and enjoys performing music for others. Jeffrey has experience performing solo and with an orchestra, and has won many awards at piano competitions. Outside of piano, Jeffrey enjoys video games, skiing, and competitive math.

Abby is in 9th grade at International School in the Bellevue School District. She started playing violin in 5th grade. Outside of music, she enjoys hanging out with her friends, sleeping in her bed, playing video games, playing violin in school and outside of school orchestras, and somewhat enjoys swimming.

Anna is an eighth grader at Tyee Middle School in Bellevue, Washington. She has played the piano for 10 years but has limited experience with other instruments such as the violin. Outside of music, her hobbies include competitive swimming and reading.

Chloe is a 8th grader in Tyee Middle School. She has loved singing since she was young, but she also enjoys playing volleyball, reading, eating, and sleeping.

Megan is a Sophomore at Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington. She has been playing the piano since she was four years old. Her hobbies outside of music include reading, watching TV shows, and playing games.

My name is Jingqi and I am an Freshmen at Newport High School. I started playing cello in 5-6th grade. Outside of music, I do competitive math, science, and debate. I also enjoy drawing.

Logan is currently a Junior at Newport High School. He has been playing flute on-and-off for 5 years. His hobbies outside of music include robotics and volleyball.

Ava is a eighth grader at Odle Middle School. She has been singing for four years and has enjoyed performing for several years. Her hobbies out of music include dancing, acting, and swimming. She holds the title of Miss Washington Preteen.

Julia is a Junior at Newport High School. She has been playing violin for 10 years, serving as principal 2nd in Newport chamber orchestra, as well as participating in orchestras such as SYSO, BYSO, All-State and All-Northwest audition orchestra, and other local competitions including PAFE and SYAMF. Her hobbies outside of music include studying biology and art.

Ethan is a junior at Newport High School in Bellevue WA. He plays multiple instruments including flute (4 yrs) alto sax (3yrs) bassoon (3 yrs) piano (8yrs) and 6 more instruments. Ethan has been part of band since 5th grade and has a own ensemble outside of school where he conducts and teaches middle through high schoolers. Other hobbies outside of music include playing badminton and ultimate frisbee.

Aiden is a current 4th grader at Seattle Country Day School who plays the piano! He won first place in the Chopin competition and has won many other awards. He swims at Pacific Dragon Swim Team, and he enjoys annoying his little sister, and playing videogames! He is a funny boy.

Katelyn is a freshman at Issaquah High School. She plays various instruments including piano, ukelele, guitar and flute, but mainly plays violin, since the age of four. Her hobbies include rock climbing, drawing, baking, and hanging out with friends.

Kevin is a 8th grader at The Overlake School in Washington. He plays the piano and has participated in many competitions, recitals, an international exchange program in Finland and Sweden, as well as performing in Carnegie hall, all since he was 5. His hobbies outside of music include competitive swimming, watching baseball, and traveling to different countries.

Alysia Chen is a Senior at Newport Senior High School. She started to play the violin at the age of 10 in school orchestra, starting private lessons at the age of 12 with Dr. Jae-in Shin. She currently studies with Talvi Violin Studio. Alysia has won the silver medal at the Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle's competition. She currently plays in the SYSO. Besides violin, Alysia also loves badminton, skiing, reading, and learning about math and science.
